EDINBURG — Rainclouds cleared up in the nick of time Friday morning to allow the city to break ground on its downtown parking garage, a $6.2 million project one city employee described as already “long overdue.”
Construction on the three-story garage at the corner of McIntyre Street and Closner Boulevard — just across from the new Hidalgo County Courthouse — will begin Nov. 6, city engineer Mardoqueo Hinojosa said.

Construction will last about a year, and the city expects to open it to the public in early 2027.
“It’s a symbol of progress, accessibility, and of Edinburg’s continued growth and revitalization,” Hinojosa said.
