It\u2019s a similar model to the ride-hailing mobile app for passenger rides, courier services, or restaurant meal delivery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more about Uber Freight&#8217;s plans, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/news\/12\/06\/2026\/why-uber-freight-says-its-scouting-around-the-rio-grande-valley-now\/\">see this news story<\/a>. Walmart deferred comment to Uber.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uber has been building its logistics brokerage across Mexico for several years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uberfreight.com\/en-US\/blog\/uber-freight-expands-cross-border-logistics-driving-growth-and-momentum-in-mexico\">and already has a sizable cross-border trade operation in Laredo<\/a> \u2014 a 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse that handles 2,000 daily shipments and a customs brokerage on the other side of the Rio Grande in Nuevo Laredo, according to the company. Truck drivers cross the border and drop off loads at Uber\u2019s centralized warehouse before U.S.-based carriers take the load to the end customer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2021, Uber <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.uber.com\/news-events\/news\/press-release-details\/2021\/Uber-Freight-to-Acquire-Transplace\/default.aspx\">acquired Frisco, Texas-based Transplace<\/a>, a trucking logistics brokerage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By 2024, Uber had reached $750 million in freight under management across Mexico, with plans to integrate its operations in Mexico into a transportation management system by mid-2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uber Freight has offices across Mexico in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico City, Tijuana, Quer\u00e9taro, Monterrey, Saltillo, and Apodaca.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"846\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-1024x846.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-1024x846.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-300x248.png 300w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-768x635.png 768w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-968x800.png 968w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-587x485.png 587w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM-278x230.png 278w, https:\/\/www.rgvbusinessjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-26-at-11.08.29-AM.png 1142w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There are already Uber Freight offices in Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, as well as in Monterrey, Mexico. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, the then-CEO of Uber Freight Lior Ron, touted the company\u2019s expansion into Mexico. The company had more than 1,300 employees to support its cross-border trade operations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs cross-border trade proliferates and nearshoring reshapes supply chains as we know them, we\u2019re proud to be the trusted partner shippers and carriers rely on to navigate complex challenges and capitalize on this burgeoning area of business,\u201d Ron said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In mid-2025, Ron left Uber to lead a Canadian autonomous truck startup, Waabi.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for how Uber may operate in the Valley, it\u2019s unclear, but the mobile application to solicit both drivers and customers was active as of May 26.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are more than 13,800 trucking carriers across the Valley, according to U.S. Department of Transportation records. There are more than 2,800 trucking carriers in Mission, 2,300 in McAllen, upwards of 1,400 in Pharr, and more than 400 in the city of
