REYNOSA — The Reynosa Broncos returned to Estadio Adolfo López Mateos this weekend for a three-game professional baseball series.
It is the first time the Mexican stadium has featured the city’s own team in professional play since the Broncos folded in 2016.
The city invested about $1.4 million in 2023 to rehabilitate the sports facility. The work included upgrades to seating, safety areas, lighting, and access points.
In March, the stadium hosted Mexican Baseball League preseason games, but those featured outside clubs.
On Friday and Saturday, however, Reynosa’s selection team faced the Venados de Mazatlán, one of the best-known franchises in the Mexican Pacific League. Venados won the opener 4–2 and the second game 5–1, according to the club’s official reports.
A final game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday.
Grupo Burgos organized the series with promotional support from the Reynosa Municipal Sports Institute.
Organizers said the event demonstrates Reynosa’s push to reestablish itself as a professional baseball hub and showcases the stadium’s readiness to host future tournaments.
Tickets for Sunday’s finale, priced between $5 and $16, remain available at the stadium box office and online at Boletomovil.com.
