Valley Regional Medical Center is planning a $1.6 million expansion of its Brownsville hospital to add two operating rooms dedicated to cesarean sections.

The privately funded project will add approximately 1,990 square feet to the existing hospital at 100 E. Alton Gloor Blvd., according to a new project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The expansion will include two C-section operating rooms and a storage room connected to the hospital’s existing operating room suite.

Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 28 and be completed by June 30, 2027, according to the filing.
