Rio Grande LNG has cleared another key hurdle toward getting even bigger at the Port of Brownsville.
NextDecade announced Monday that it received a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit for Train 6, a proposed sixth production unit that would expand the liquefied natural gas facility being developed along the Brownsville Ship Channel.
The new permit moves the expansion forward, but it does not mean NextDecade has committed to building Train 6.

The company said it is still targeting the second half of 2027 for a potential positive final investment decision — the point when NextDecade would decide whether to move forward with the expansion.
