Plans for a new $46 million international bridge connecting Brownsville and Matamoros are awaiting their next step in Mexico, where authorities have yet to schedule a meeting to review the proposed crossing.

Arturo de las Fuentes Hernández, president of Cruces y Puentes Internacionales, a Mexican consulting firm specializing in cross-border infrastructure projects, including the proposed new bridge, provided an update Wednesday.
“We have completed the feasibility study for Flor de Mayo. We are waiting for them to give us a date for the foreign relations base group meeting where we will present it,” De las Fuentes said.
The proposed Flor de Mayo International Bridge would feature four lanes for passenger vehicles and accommodations for pedestrians, providing another option for people traveling between the two border cities.
