The project at the intersection of Barbee Drive and FM 1015 has entered the land clearing and grading phase, signaling the start of physical construction. City officials and Sam’s Club executives attended the earlier groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 2.
The 167,000-square-foot store is expected to create more than 200 permanent jobs. City leaders say the development is the largest retail project in Weslaco’s history, with potential to strengthen the local economy and draw shoppers from across the Mid-Valley.
