Barges supporting offshore operations, an upcoming Orbia export to Brazil and continued dredging are adding activity to the port as it moves into a new operating phase.
MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — One year after Puerto del Norte began operations, activity at the Matamoros port is becoming more visible, with barge movements linked to offshore operations, continued maintenance of the navigation channel and preparations for an industrial export to Brazil.
The port formally began operations on Aug. 2, 2025, when the arrival of the roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel “Integrador” marked the start of operations at the facility, according to the Tamaulipas government. The state’s fourth government report also documented additional vessel arrivals between August 2025 and January 2026 as the port entered its initial operating phase.
The latest activity provides a more concrete picture of how the port is being used as it enters its second year.
