Valley Regional adds eight exam rooms and a five-bay ambulance canopy, its second ER move this year
BROWNSVILLE — Valley Regional Medical Center has registered plans for a $14.8 million expansion and renovation of its emergency department, the HCA Healthcare hospital’s second move this year to add emergency capacity in Cameron County.
The project covers 22,692 square feet at 100 Alton Gloor Blvd. and calls for a one-story addition with eight emergency exam rooms, a nurses station and support space, a five-bay ambulance canopy and a second-floor mechanical penthouse, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The existing emergency room gets new paint and flooring, with major renovation of the trauma rooms and reception area.
Construction is scheduled to start Feb. 2, 2027, and finish March 28, 2028. The work is privately funded on private land, and the hospital is the owner rather than a tenant.
