A little MySpace, a little AOL: Valleyites help grow new social media platform

The new social media site SeenU is connecting people around the world, and a team of Valleyites is leading the charge.

SeenU is a platform that Georgia-based developer Ifeanyi “Ify” Imachukwu designed to help people build connections with others in their area. The mobile app and desktop site displays users or Seenies based on location, but it also allows them to reach others regionally and globally. And all users have to go through a verification process to keep the platform bot- and scam-free.

Imachukwu designed SeenU’s interface to resemble now-defunct social sites from the early 2000s like MySpace and AOL chatrooms because he was nostalgic for a time when he believes authentic connections were easier to come by.

“Just think about it, we’re always surrounded by strangers, but we don’t actually know these people. SeenU bridges that gap to where you can now see people near you on a radar, click on their profile and you can see their whole personalities from their customized page to their music taste to their top friends and a lot more,” he said. “You can play games with them, but even if they’re not in the area, you’re still able to connect with people all around the world in a new authentic way.”
