REYNOSA, Mexico — Day of the Dead celebrations generated an estimated $7.3 million in economic activity in Reynosa as thousands of families visited cemeteries and supported florists, bakeries, restaurants and other businesses.
The National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Reynosa, known as CANACO, estimated the Nov. 1-2 celebration accounted for 60% of the approximately $12.1 million in economic activity generated during the combined Day of the Dead and Halloween holiday period.
Halloween accounted for the remaining $4.8 million, according to the chamber.
Visitors from the Rio Grande Valley contributed an estimated $1.45 million to $1.81 million in spending during the three-day period, representing approximately 12% to 15% of the combined economic activity.
