Mission Regional Medical Center will break ground Wednesday on a new $10.5 million emergency department in Palmview aimed at expanding emergency care access in western Hidalgo County.

The 13,756-square-foot Palmview Emergency Department will operate 24 hours a day and include an ambulance bay, exam rooms, in-house laboratory and X-ray services, medical equipment, a patient lobby, and parking.

Construction is expected to finish by summer 2027.

“This $10.5 million investment by Prime Healthcare and Mission Regional Medical Center represents our commitment to families in Palmview and western Hidalgo County,” Kane Dawson, president and CEO of Mission Regional Medical Center, said in a statement.

Hospital officials said the facility will treat medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, breathing difficulties, broken bones, allergic reactions, bleeding injuries, dehydration, and drug overdoses.

The facility will be built at 100 Main Street in Palmview, north of Expressway 83.

The emergency department will be staffed by emergency medicine providers from Mission Regional Medical Center.

“We are proud to bring that same level of excellence, fast care, and accurate diagnosis to the new Palmview Emergency Department,” Cesar Guerra, chief nursing officer for Mission Regional Medical Center, said in a statement.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
