McAllen fine-dining staple House. Wine. & Bistro. to close after 18 years

House. Wine. & Bistro., the restaurant that launched one of the Rio Grande Valley’s most recognizable hospitality brands, will close July 18 as its owners prepare to unveil a new dining concept.

The McAllen restaurant announced the decision this week, ending an 18-year run that helped establish Chef Larry Delgado and Jessica Delgado as leading figures in the Valley’s culinary scene.

“It is with heavy hearts and humble gratitude that we share the next chapter in our culinary journey,” the owners wrote in a message to customers. “As of July 18th we will be closing the doors of house. wine. & bistro as we transition to a new concept.”

The owners said the move is part of a broader vision for the future rather than a departure from the restaurant industry.

“While this decision was incredibly difficult, it is a necessary step as we look toward the future and embrace a new vision,” the statement said.

House. Wine. & Bistro. opened in 2008 and quickly became known for its chef-driven menu, wine selection and emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Over the years, the restaurant evolved into more than a standalone dining destination. It became the foundation of the Delgado Collective, the hospitality group that would later expand into additional restaurant, catering and event ventures.

Since launching House. Wine. & Bistro., Larry and Jessica Delgado have grown the Delgado Collective to include concepts such as SALT – New American Table, along with catering and hospitality services. The group has become a prominent name in the Valley’s dining industry, helping elevate the region’s culinary profile while creating a platform for chef-driven concepts.

The restaurant’s success also helped establish Chef Larry Delgado as one of the Valley’s most recognizable culinary figures. Through cooking competitions, television appearances and community involvement, Delgado became a leading advocate for the region’s growing food scene.

For many customers, House. Wine. & Bistro. served as a backdrop for business dinners, anniversaries, celebrations and everyday gatherings over nearly two decades.

“From celebrations and date nights to everyday gatherings, thank you for allowing House. Wine. & Bistro. to be a part of your lives for almost two decades,” the owners wrote.

While details about the replacement concept have not yet been released, the Delgados said they plan to share more information soon.

“This is not a goodbye, but rather the beginning of an exciting new chapter,” the statement said. “We look forward to sharing what’s next and hope you’ll join us on this journey.”
