Layne’s Chicken Fingers plans first Rio Grande Valley location

A Texas chicken chain known for its college-town following is planning its first Rio Grande Valley location.

A state construction filing shows Layne’s Chicken Fingers plans to renovate an existing restaurant space in Brownsville, marking the brand’s first known entry into the Valley market.

The project was registered through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s Texas Accessibility Standards system. Documents show a $400,000 renovation planned at La Placita, located at 1655 Ruben M. Torres Sr. Blvd.

The filing indicates alterations to an existing 2,295-square-foot restaurant structure to accommodate the Layne’s concept.

Construction is expected to begin April 1, with completion projected by June 30, according to the filing.

The project is privately funded and located on privately owned property.

Texas chain continues expansion

Layne’s Chicken Fingers was founded in College Station in 1994 and built its early reputation serving students at Texas A&M University.

The chain is known for a simplified menu centered on chicken finger baskets served with Texas toast, fries and its signature dipping sauce.

In recent years the brand has expanded through franchising and new markets across Texas and other states.
