First Volaris flight from Guadalajara lands in Reynosa

The first Volaris flight from Guadalajara arrived at General Lucio Blanco International Airport in Reynosa on Thursday, restoring nonstop service between the two cities for the first time in several years.

The route, initially announced in February, is part of a broader expansion by Volaris and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA). 

For Reynosa, it reconnects the border city with Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s largest manufacturing and technology hubs, at a time when business leaders continue pushing for stronger domestic air connectivity to support investment and executive travel.

Thursday’s arrival was marked by an inaugural ceremony attended by representatives from Volaris, OMA, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency, airport officials and local and state leaders.

Former Reynosa Mayor Maki Esther Ortiz Domínguez, who attended the ceremony, called the new route “another step toward strengthening connectivity, tourism and economic development” in Tamaulipas.

“We will continue working toward a more connected state with better and greater opportunities,” Ortiz said in Spanish.

The new service adds another domestic connection for Reynosa as manufacturing investment, nearshoring and cross-border trade continue driving demand for improved business travel across northern Mexico.
