Brownsville is moving forward with a proposed moratorium that could halt new data center applications for up to six months as city leaders work on permanent regulations for the rapidly growing industry.
The Brownsville City Commission will hold the second of three required public hearings Tuesday on a proposed 90-day moratorium on high-density data processing facilities. A third and final hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
Both hearings begin at 5 p.m. at Brownsville City Hall, 1001 E. Elizabeth St.
The proposed ordinance would temporarily stop the city from accepting, processing or approving new applications, permits and zoning requests for data centers throughout Brownsville and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.
