The most recent jobs report for the Rio Grande Valley shows modest growth through September, according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission based on Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates.

The estimates track with the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank’s projection that the Texas economy and the border region would see growth of no more than about 1% over the year in 2026.

The Rio Grande Valley grew faster than the national average but slower than Texas for September: about 0.82% growth in the Valley compared to 1.08% statewide and 0.31% nationwide.

The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro area added 4,200 jobs through September, up 1.38% to 308,800 nonfarm jobs.
