REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — A line of trucks stretching approximately 5 kilometers formed in Reynosa on Monday as freight carriers mobilized to protest highway robberies, extortion and rising operating costs.
A Rio Grande Valley Business Journal correspondent observed the long line of trucks on Monday as drivers prepared to travel to several locations throughout the city to draw attention to the challenges facing Mexico’s freight transportation industry.
Organizers expected about 200 trucks to participate in Monday’s demonstration, which was intended to draw attention to the challenges facing companies responsible for transporting goods throughout Mexico.
Abraham Sosa Ruiz, president of the Reynosa chapter of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (CANACAR), said truckers want direct talks with President Claudia Sheinbaum and federal officials responsible for highway security, infrastructure and tax policy.
