Data center developers are already building across South Texas, so local leaders in a coalition drafted a contract available for any community seeking a fairer trade for the multi-billion-dollar projects.
The Texas Rio Grande Valley AI Data Center Community Benefit Agreement Term Sheet was approved by the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, a coalition of local governments, in late October.
The new resource is meant for local government officials considering ways to negotiate a fair trade for the tsunami of hyperscale data centers meant to power artificial intelligence.
Jordana Barton-Garcia of Connect Humanity spearheaded the effort, working with a coalition of more than 50 organizations and dozens of leaders, from grassroots community organizers to economic development officials.
