The Brownsville Public Utilities Board has launched a notification program that alerts customers when their water meters detect 24 consecutive hours of consumption, helping them identify potential leaks or other unusual water use before problems escalate.
The Continuous Water Consumption Notification Program, which began Nov. 1, uses BPUB’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure, or AMI, smart meters to monitor water consumption and identify periods when water use does not stop.
When the system detects uninterrupted consumption over a 24-hour period, customers will receive an alert by email or text message.
The notifications are intended to help customers recognize potential plumbing problems, malfunctioning appliances or other sources of continuous water use that might otherwise go unnoticed.
