Construction activity in Edinburg topped $46 million during the first two months of 2026, driven by a mix of commercial development, housing construction, and infrastructure projects across the city, according to municipal building data.

The city recorded $46,087,224 in construction valuations year-to-date, including $29 million in February alone, the city’s Building Safety Department reported in its February monthly report.

Commercial development accounted for the largest share of investment.

Projects permitted in February included an $8 million Courtyard by Marriott hotel, a $6.5 million produce facility for Bagley Produce, and a $1.45 million Valvoline Instant Oil Change location, according to the permit report.

Additional commercial permits covered smaller retail and service projects, including work associated with Pinkberry, Alexandra’s Plaza and several tenant improvements across shopping centers in the city.

Altogether, 11 new commercial construction permits accounted for about $17.6 million in February valuations, the report shows.

Residential construction also contributed to the development pipeline.

City officials issued permits for 30 new single-family homes valued at roughly $6.5 million during the month, along with 52 residential alteration projects totaling about $747,000.

Multifamily construction added another $2.15 million in valuations, reflecting apartment and housing projects underway across several subdivisions.

Overall, the city issued 509 permits in February across all categories, including building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work.

Despite the sizable investment value, the number of permits declined compared with the same month last year, when the city issued 580 permits.

City officials conducted 2,463 construction inspections during February, reflecting ongoing building activity across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.

Edinburg, which has a population of about 106,746 residents, continues to see steady development as new housing subdivisions, retail projects and industrial facilities expand the city’s construction pipeline.
