Restaurant owners to compare notes at McAllen gathering
Restaurant owners across the Valley are invited to a gathering in McAllen next week aimed at trading ideas on how to help each other through a difficult period for the industry.
“Restaurants Helping Restaurants: A Time of Insight and Hope” runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4809 W. Expressway 83, Suite 100, hosted by Edith’s Kitchen at its McAllen buffet location. The session is pitched at small business owners.
The timing is not accidental. A Caminos Institute analysis put the economic cost of immigration enforcement in the four-county Valley at roughly $180 million over three and a half years, with food and accommodation businesses absorbing about $21 million of that in lost labor income. The Texas Restaurant Association reports 36% of restaurants statewide have lost workers and about 28% are seeing fewer applicants.
