A coalition of builders, a roofing contractor and community donors has finished critical roof repairs at the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Convent on San Antonio’s West Side, sparing the Catholic order a bill it could not afford as it prepares to mark 100 years in the city.
The convent will hold a community celebration at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Oct. 7 at 2403 W. Travis St. to recognize the sisters, the finished work and the partners who made it possible. Former U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros, who also served as mayor of San Antonio, is scheduled to take part.
The sisters had dealt with longstanding roof problems at the West Travis Street property, which houses the convent, a chapel and facilities that support the order’s educational and community ministries. Recent storms made the repairs increasingly urgent.
