Pharr is launching a new business forum next month aimed at bringing together industry leaders to discuss the future of international trade, logistics and investment in the Rio Grande Valley.
The inaugural Gateway Forum is scheduled for Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pharr Development & Research Center, 850 W. Dicker Road.
The city is organizing the event with the Pharr International Bridge, Greater Pharr Chamber of Commerce and Pharr Economic Development Corporation.
The forum will feature panel discussions with business and industry leaders focused on cross-border commerce, logistics, investment and economic development, according to the city.
Duncan Wood, a longtime U.S.-Mexico relations and North American trade expert who previously led the Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, will deliver the keynote address. Wood, now CEO of Hurst International Consulting, specializes in North American economic integration, supply chains, energy, and geopolitics. His keynote, “From Chokepoints to Gateways: Why South Texas is the model for the new American economy,” will examine the region’s role in cross-border trade and economic development.
The event comes as Pharr continues to build its role as one of the Rio Grande Valley’s major international trade gateways.
The Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge serves as a key commercial crossing between the United States and Mexico, making trade and logistics a significant part of the city’s economy.
Registered attendees will also have the opportunity to tour industrial parks in Pharr by trolley. Space for the tours is limited and attendees must reserve a spot during registration.
A networking mixer is planned following the forum, although the city said additional details will be announced later.
The city said the event is open to business leaders, industry professionals, community stakeholders and others interested in the region’s economic development.
