A pair of local real estate developers plan to spend $20 million to redevelop two hotels just north of Trenton Road along South Closner Boulevard, according to an announcement from the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.

Kamaldeep Gill and Kulwinder Binning, of Binning Hospitality LLC, are redeveloping the existing Comfort Inn and MainStay Suites in Edinburg into different hotels.

The MainStay Suites will become a four-story extended stay Staybridge Suites with about 100 rooms, and the Comfort Inn will get upgraded to a Holiday Inn that’s three stories with 53 rooms as a full-service hotel in the city.

Plans include a mixed-use development including a full-service restaurant, bar, meeting space, basketball court, outdoor grill and patio, and a spa.

“We already have our hotels in this community, and we see firsthand the growth and opportunity this city offers,” said Gill, of Binning Hospitality, in a news release. “Redeveloping these existing properties into a world-class IGH dual-branded hotel felt like a natural next step.”

The Edinburg EDC projects that the $20 million project would generate $5.6 million in annual revenue and create 47 jobs. Construction is slated to begin in September 2026 and be completed by March 2028.

Edinburg leaders say that a full-service hotel is a “game changer” for the city, “that can accommodate business travelers, conference guests and visitors at the level they expect,” said Aaron Rivera, board president of the Edinburg EDC.

The historic Echo Hotel and Conference Center – which had 110 guest rooms and meeting space – is undergoing redevelopment to become the corporate campus of technology company Zoho Corporation in Edinburg.
