New supermarket planned for north Pharr

A new supermarket is planned for north Pharr as development continues along the Sugar Road corridor.

According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, a project identified as Valley Mart calls for the construction of a 10,000-square-foot supermarket at 3811 N. Sugar Road. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $500,000 and is scheduled to begin this month, with completion targeted for June 2027.

The filing lists the project as privately funded and identifies Edinburg-based Rich Heritage Construction Inc. as the property owner. No tenant or grocery operator has been identified in state records.

While few details about Valley Mart have been made public, the project would add grocery retail space to an area that continues to attract residential and commercial development. Properties along Sugar Road and nearby Nolana Loop are being marketed for retail, multifamily and mixed-use projects, while commercial development sites continue to come to market throughout north Pharr.

According to the filing, the project will consist of new construction rather than the renovation of an existing building.

Rich Heritage Construction, the company listed as owner, is a Valley-based builder involved in residential and commercial development projects throughout the region.

Additional details about the supermarket concept, ownership structure and planned grocery operator were not available in state records.
