There are hundreds of construction projects underway across the Rio Grande Valley.

In February, developers filed permits with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for a park at SpaceX, Tesla chargers on South Padre Island, retail shops, and a new hotel in Weslaco, among other projects.

The new private park planned inside the new city of Starbase will be on land owned by SpaceX. Known as Starship Park, or Building 42, the proposed project is expected to cost $13.8 million and will include a monument and an amenities building.

Construction is expected to begin on Feb. 16 and run through the end of August. Austin-based AE7 Partners is handling the park’s design, records show.

The new Tesla chargers will be installed in front of the South Padre Island Visitors Bureau at 321 Padre Boulevard. That project is slated to be completed by June.

There’s also a pair of warehouses for Port of Brownsville tenant CHCL Enterprises LLC, totaling $800,000, along North Indiana Avenue, which sits across Highway 511 from a port entrance.

IDEA Public Schools expects to spend $8.1 million on improvements at its Weslaco school and $8 million at its Pharr location.

On the retail front, there’s a Psycho Bunny opening at La Plaza Mall in McAllen, a Crumbl Cookies opening in Harlingen, and plans for a Bath & Body Works and McDonald’s in Edinburg.

In Weslaco, San Antonio developer Birju Patel of BH Hospitality Management is planning to build a Hilton Home2Suites hotel at 2300 Pike Boulevard, east of Milanos Road, on the south side of Expressway 83.

The estimated cost of the 63,202-square-foot hotel would be $3.1 million, according to the planning documents.
