The health and wellness retailer plans a nearly 3,000-square-foot store along Expressway 83, according to a new state filing.
The Vitamin Shoppe is preparing to expand its McAllen footprint with a second location planned for Las Tiendas Shopping Center along Expressway 83.
The health and wellness retailer plans to build out a 2,957-square-foot vacant tenant space at 816 E. Expressway 83, according to a project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The privately funded renovation carries an estimated construction cost of $271,000. Work is scheduled to begin Oct. 2 and be completed by Dec. 1, 2027, according to the filing.
The project calls for converting the existing vacant space into a retail vitamin and supplement store. The filing lists The Vitamin Shoppe as the tenant and Weingarten Las Tiendas JV as the property owner.
The new store would give The Vitamin Shoppe a second location in McAllen. The retailer currently operates a store at 4001 N. 10th St., according to the company’s website.
The company sells vitamins, nutritional supplements, protein powders, energy drinks, natural beauty products and other health and wellness products. The Vitamin Shoppe says it operates more than 600 stores nationwide.
The company’s Texas store directory currently lists Rio Grande Valley locations in McAllen and Brownsville.
WT Group AEC LLC of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, is listed as the design firm for the Las Tiendas project.
The state filing reflects anticipated construction dates and costs and does not necessarily indicate when the new store will open to customers.
