Breaking: Mexico’s president visits Reynosa to expand federal social programs for housing and women

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo visited Reynosa on Saturday to lead a federal agenda centered on affordable housing and direct economic support for women, according to the Mexican government.

Sheinbaum presided over the delivery of homes under the federal Housing for Wellbeing Program, including the presentation of a model home, as part of a national strategy to reduce Mexico’s housing deficit in priority regions.

Federal and local authorities have identified Tamaulipas as a priority state because of its rapid urban growth, border location, and strong demand for social housing. The program targets low-income families who lack access to traditional mortgage credit.

Approximately 2,900 homes are currently under construction in Reynosa through the program, primarily in developments such as Puerta Grande and its expansion, Residencial Florencia, and Nuevo México. Authorities did not specify how many homes were formally delivered during Saturday’s event.

Later in the afternoon, Sheinbaum led the distribution of Women’s Wellbeing Pension Program benefit cards, a federal initiative that provides bimonthly financial support to women ages 60 to 64 as a bridge before eligibility for Mexico’s universal pension for older adults.

The Reynosa visit is part of a broader presidential tour across Tamaulipas focused on expanding the reach of federal social programs along Mexico’s northern border. Additional events are scheduled in other border municipalities, according to official information.
