Cameron County has completed a nearly $6.9 million renovation of Andy Bowie Park, adding new beach amenities, upgraded facilities and improved public access through a project funded in part by a $2 million contribution from SpaceX.
County officials marked the completion of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 26 at Beach Access No. 2 on South Padre Island. The improvements are part of Cameron County’s ongoing investment in its coastal park system, which County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said has totaled about $51 million since 2017.

The renovation modernized one of South Padre Island’s busiest public beach parks, replacing aging infrastructure first built in 1994 while improving accessibility and safety for residents and visitors.
Among the upgrades are new elevated plaza pavilions on the north and south ends of the park, additional picnic areas, environmentally friendly lighting, renovated restroom and bathhouse facilities, updated concession buildings and improvements to the park office.
