Vertiv, which makes power and electrical equipment for data centers and industrial facilities, has begun construction on a 150,000-square-foot plant that will produce switchgear — the systems that manage and protect the flow of electricity inside large, high-power buildings.

Switchgear turns power on and off, directs electricity to different parts of a facility, and shuts systems down automatically when something goes wrong, helping data centers and AI operations run without interruption.

The company said the plant, known as Vertiv Reynosa Building C, is part of a long-term expansion plan to increase operational capacity by 2026 as demand increases for the equipment that keeps data centers and AI facilities running.

The company did not disclose  how much it is investing in the expansion.

“This new building reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in world-class infrastructure, as well as in the talent and communities where we operate,” Vertiv Chief Executive Officer Giordano Albertazzi said. “Reynosa is a strategic location for Vertiv, and this project will strengthen our ability to serve our customers efficiently and safely.”

Albertazzi was joined at the groundbreaking by several members of Vertiv’s global executive team, including executives responsible for manufacturing, operations, and finance.

The presence of senior leadership signals a long-term commitment to the company’s operations in Reynosa and to future job creation, company officials said.

Building C will be located in the RICSA Industrial Park, which is near the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

The project includes a 23,000-square-foot mezzanine and an 8,000-square-foot office area distributed across two levels.

Employee amenities will include a cafeteria with seating for 234 people.

From a logistics standpoint, the facility is designed with seven loading docks, two forklift ramps, two truck access points, and an outdoor crane operation area to support loading, unloading, and material handling.
