A massive artificial intelligence data center planned in rural Willacy County is moving toward construction, with a new state filing putting the project’s estimated cost at nearly $472 million.

Project Kati 2, a development previously announced by New York-based Soluna Holdings, is planned as a 471,884-square-foot, single-story AI data center near FM 1420 in the Santa Monica area, according to a filing registered Wednesday with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The privately funded project carries an estimated construction cost of $471.8 million. Construction is scheduled to begin Thursday and be completed Oct. 8, 2027, according to the filing.

The facility would have a critical information technology load of approximately 112 megawatts, slightly higher than the roughly 100 megawatts previously announced for Kati 2.
