The Pharr City Commission approved the issuance of up to $60 million in tax and revenue bonds to finance construction of a new multi-use municipal facility.
The proposed two-story building would span approximately 80,000 square feet and is planned for the northeast corner of Ferguson Avenue and U.S. Highway 281.
City officials said the facility would house multiple departments, including administrative offices, billing services, animal shelter operations, and public safety seminars. The building is also designed to function as an emergency response shelter during disaster events.
The project was previewed during the city’s recent State of the City address as part of broader infrastructure planning efforts tied to population and service growth.
Commissioners also considered a $230,243 contract with Terracon Consultants Inc. related to the project. That item was tabled for further discussion and is expected to return at a future meeting.
If issued at the full authorized amount, the bonds would represent one of the city’s larger recent municipal capital investments.
