AutoZone is expanding its footprint in Starr County with plans to build a new retail store in Rio Grande City.

State construction records show the company plans to invest $773,982 in a new 7,147-square-foot AutoZone along U.S. Highway 83 west of Farm-to-Market Road 3167.

Construction was scheduled to begin in April and be completed by mid-September, according to a project registration filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The project calls for the ground-up construction of a new auto parts retail store. It will be privately funded and built on private property.

E & S Farms, based in Lodi, California, is listed as the property owner. AutoZone is identified as the project’s design firm, with its corporate headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee.

The new store represents another retail investment in Rio Grande City as commercial development continues along the U.S. 83 corridor, adding automotive parts and maintenance supplies for area residents and businesses.

Additional details, including a projected opening date and employment information, were not immediately available.
