A new $14 million cold storage warehouse is planned in South McAllen, adding another major produce-related facility to the city’s industrial area near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The privately funded project calls for construction of a 58,308-square-foot cold storage warehouse at 5501 Honduras Ave., according to a new project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 28 and be completed by Aug. 16, 2027.
The project is listed as 7 Palmas Warehouse, and the facility is identified as the 7 Palmas LLC Cold Storage Warehouse. The filing describes the project as a new cold storage warehouse building with ancillary rooms.
7 Palmas Produce LLC is listed as the property owner, with a McAllen address at 2101 W. Military Highway. Pedro Hernandez is identified as the company’s contact.
The state filing does not identify a tenant or specify what products would be stored at the new facility. It also does not say how much refrigerated storage capacity the warehouse would provide or whether the project is expected to create jobs.
The location puts the new warehouse along Honduras Avenue in South McAllen, an area with other produce and distribution operations serving the cross-border trade industry.
The project is privately funded on private property. AP Architects LLC of San Antonio is listed as the design firm.
The project is registered with the state, with construction expected to take nearly 11 months.
